Mission Statement:



Hawkins County Emergency Management Agency is responsible for the process of coordinating available local, regional, state, and federal resources to respond to large-scale emergencies and manmade or natural disasters, thereby saving lives, minimizing the risk of injuries, and lessening economic loss to Hawkins County.  Hawkins County Emergency Management Agency provides preparedness, response, and recovery to these events within Hawkins County.  The goal of the Hawkins County Emergency Management Agency is to return Hawkins County to a normal status as soon as possible after a disaster.  Hawkins County Emergency Management Agency works with the public, businesses, volunteers, emergency services, and county government to prepare for emergencies and to mitigate or eliminate, when possible, hazards within Hawkins County.

Floodplain Information:
Floods occur naturally and can happen almost anywhere. They may not even be near a body of water, although river and coastal flooding are two of the most common types. Heavy rains, poor drainage, and even nearby construction projects can put you at risk for flood damage. Flood maps are one tool that communities use to know which areas have the highest risk of flooding. FEMA maintains and updates data through flood maps and risk assessments. Flood maps show how likely it is for an area to flood. Any property with a 1% or higher chance of experiencing a flood each year is considered to have a high risk. Using a flood map, you can see the relationship between a property and the areas with the highest risk of flooding. There is no such thing as a “no-risk zone,” but some areas have a lower or moderate risk. Consult the National Flood Hazard Layer online or FEMA flood maps to determine if a property is in the floodplain and the property’s flood risk:
